The Art of Microhiking | Trail & Ecology Speaker Series

Monday, April 22, 2024 - 07:00-8:30 pm

New York-New Jersey Trail Conference HQ
600 Ramapo Valley Rd
Mahwah, NJ, 07430

Discover the art microhiking: noticing and understanding the wonderful living world along the trail beyond its views and vistas. During this enlightening workshop, Serena Feldman, Land Steward for Greenburgh Nature Center, will introduce you to the key features of plant identification (like woody versus herbaceous), tree identification (even before the leaves are fully formed), how to spot the habitats of various species of amphibians, reptiles, birds...and more!

This event will be part presentation, part nature walk. Weather premitting, we will spend some time outside to review plant identification, listen for birds/owls, and lookout for crepuscular (active during twilight) animals. Walk away with a deeper understanding of our region’s ecosystems and biodiversity, as well as an appreciation for the sometimes-hidden side of hiking.
