Interested in becoming a volunteer Trail Maintainer? Join NYNJTC Volunteer Marek Stycos in this Intro to Trail Maintenance Workshop.
Trail maintenance is clearing, cleaning, and blazing. Trail Maintainers ensure the trails are clearly marked and free of obstacles to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all trail users.
This course helps you gain or brush up on the skills necessary to become a volunteer Trail Maintainer. Skills include using small hand tools to properly clip and clear the trail corridor, clean drainage structures, proper blazing techniques, and reporting trail conditions.
Please come prepared with:
- Work gloves
- Glasses or Sunglasses for eye protection
- Plenty of water
- Lunch and snacks
- Long pants
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes
- Clippers, loppers, or a handsaw if you have them
Spare tools will be provided for those who don't have them.
Important Paperwork - please fill out the OPRHP Volunteer Service Agreement prior to the workshop, selecting Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks.
