West Hudson South Trail Crew:
Harriman Workday

Saturday, May 16, 2026
9:30am- ~2:30pm
Harriman State Park

Interested in helping out to repair the trails in Harriman State Park? We will be cleaning up trails to help hikers get through some perpetually wet sections of trails.

Tasks will include raking out clogged culverts and removing debris such as small branches, as well as other light work to clean up the trails.   Volunteers will learn the basics of wet trail mitigation as we work to help divert water off the trails.  The work is not too strenuous or difficult and is ideal for both new volunteers and existing trail maintainers and other volunteers.

For the work day, we need people who can fill these roles:

1)    Regular crew member
2)    Photographer—help us document the work
3)    Supply chief—help distribute and keep track of the tools
4)    Supervisors and leaders—help manage a group of 2-4 volunteers in small areas.  There will be an overall supervisor present as well.

  • What to expect: To repair a perpetually wet sections of trails.  Anticipate about 4-5 hours on the trail.
  • Terrain: Rough surface—typical rocky trails—with mud present at the work site.
  • Distance/elevation: The group will be working between ¼ miles and 2 miles from the parking lot with the option to hike in further for maintenance work as needed along the trail.  Expect a total of 4+ miles of walking/hiking with moderate elevation gain to get to the remediation areas and return to parking lot.  There will be some stream crossings so hiking poles will be useful.
  • What to bring: Sturdy footwear, layers, snacks and lunch, water, bug spray. Bring PPE like gloves and eye protection if you have them. Tools/PPE will be provided for those that don't have them.
  • Where to meet: Exact Meeting Location is TBD. The Crew will reach out before the workday to let you know where in Harriman State Park to meet.
  • Contact: Kathy Hecht, West Hudson Local Trails Crew Supervisor, [email protected]
