Intro to Trail Maintenance Workshop

Ever wonder what it takes to be a Trail Maintainer? Join NYNJTC volunteer leaders in classroom lesson followed by a hands-on session to learn how to adopt a trail of your own!

  • Description: This workshop covers skills necessary to maintain a hiking trail so it’s easily passable and harmonious with its surroundings. Participants will learn assessment of trail conditions, clearing, and blazing of trails, and how to properly report trail problems they may come across. We’ll also discuss volunteering on trails, and what it means to be a trail maintainer. The first portion of the day will be an indoor classroom presentation, followed by an outdoor on-trail session.
  • What to bring: Work gloves, glasses/sunglasses, plenty of water, lunch and snacks, long pants, study close-toed shoes.
