Trail Structures: Drainage Workshop
Sunday, June 14, 2026
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Lorrimer Sanctuary
Franklin Lakes, NJ
Why do we want to get water off of trails, and what are the most useful ways to do so in a given situation? Learn the answers to these questions and more at NJ Audubon's Lorrimer Sanctuary in this informative workshop that will teach you about drainage solutions with fun names like knicks, dips, and waterbars.
- What to expect: Learn about how to predict the flow of water over the landscape, locate specific drainage issues, identify the right drainage structures to suit different needs, and gain hands-on experience installing dip/knick style drainage structures. This work will improve the trails at Lorrimer Sanctuary, and leave them better than we found them.
- What to bring: Sturdy footwear, layers, lunch, snacks, water, bug spray. Wear long sleeves and pants. Bring gloves, eye protection, and hardhat if you have them. PPE will be provided to those that do not have any.
- Where to meet: Lorrimer Sancturary, 790 Ewing Ave, Franklin Lakes, NJ - Google Maps Link
