Come join the Catskills Lean-To Crew on making improvements the Batavia Kill Shelter on Blackhead Mountain in the Northern Catskills. Join for the day or come stay overnight with the crew!

The Scope of the Work: 

• Staining the shelter

• Doing other routine maintenance

Details:

• Parking: Trailhead Parking at end of Big Hollow Road, Maplecrest, NY - Google Maps Link
• Hike In: It is a 1.5 mile hike with moderate elevation to the shelter.
• What to bring: Water, lunch and snacks, sturdy shoes, water, safety goggles, gloves, bug spray, and a headlight. If you'll be spending the night, bring your overnight gear and food.
• Meeting: We will meet at 9am on Friday. Volunteers who are coming Saturday or Sunday will hike in on their own.  Additional details will be communicated with those volunteers attending.
• Water: is available from the stream. Filtering is required.
• Camping: You can either come for the day or stay at the shelter to make a fun volunteer trip out of the experience! Eric will spend Friday and Saturday night. For those staying over we do a combination of shared and individual food, as desired.
• The Shelter - The Batavia Kill Shelter will also be available for sleeping in during the worktrip. 
• Cell Service - is uncertain. Do not count on reliable cell service.
• Carpooling is encouraged! Eric will facilitate. Driving time from Midtown NYC is 2.5 hours.
• Tools: will be provided.
• Minors under 18: Must fill out a Guardian Consent Form and attend with a parent or guardian.

This Event counts as part of Trail U curriculum.

Attending this worktrip will fulfill the "Non-Trail U NYNJTC Event" elective for any of the 3 curriculum tracks. Fill out your attendance in the Trail U Brochure to track your progress and earn a patch upon completion!
