Trail Ecology Survey and Monitoring Program: Species ID and Reporting Guided Walk

Come join the Director of Land Stewardship, Brent Boscarino, for a circa 2-mile guided invasive species identification walk in Harriman State Park to brush up on your field ID skills. Target species we will find and see in person: Border privet, northern spicebush, sassafras, Wisteria, beech/beech leaf disease.  We will also practice all survey and reporting procedures including using written datasheets and ID/navigation and reporting apps used for our program. 

This walk will be tailored towards current Trail Ecology and Monitor Volunteers who have already completed the required Survey Training workshop sequence, but any and all are welcome to join.

  • What to expect: Guided walk, leisurely pace
  • Terrain: Relatively flat with some downed trees to maneuver
  • Distance/elevation: 1 mile/minimal
  • What to bring: Charged device to practice reporting, sturdy footwear, layers, snacks, water, bug spray + optional datasheet to practice
